Cathedrals

Kristen Mcguire

Although Im not sure how much it fits with the brief I think this is amazing. The Ice book is like a miniature theatre show performed by projecting images onto paper cut outs created by Kristen Mcguire. When i first saw the image above I thought that the doorway was pleated, but I'm pretty sure now that it was done by layering up individual pieces of card.
But it did set me thinking about the repetition seen in cathedral architecture.

I thought pleating would work quite well in replicating some of the repetitious patterns found in the architecture of cathedral ceilings, so had a bash making something along those lines:

The first attempt (above) was more of a practice run at just getting the general shape sorted, as i admit it doesn't bare much resemblance to a catherdral ceiling at this stage!

I felt as though this second attempt wasn't a bad abstract interpretation, though i actually much prefer it when viewed from the back or sides.
